Year 6 Girls Football Tournament
Thu 30 Mar 2023Nine lucky children took part in a girls football tournament last week, competing against Bishop Road and Brunel Field. The girls had a fantastic afternoon in which they won a game, drew a game and lost a game. Some great defending by Aleena A and a great goal by Juno kept us ahead in the second game whilst a player of the match performance in goal by Sylvie was not quite enough to send us through to the final. Overall, all of the girls represented the school brilliantly and demonstrated great sporting values and it was all topped off by meeting two Bristol City Women's players and collecting some autographs at the end of the day!
Well done to Sylvie, Hafsa, Sooden, Grace, Juno, Liz, Blossom, Jaspreet and Aleena!

Year 5/6 Chess Tournament
Thu 30 Mar 2023The annual Year 5 and 6 Chess Competition concluded with the grand final held in the school library. Rex (Yr 5) played James (Yr 6) after a gruelling tournament that took 8 weeks and 9 rounds of competition. The final was watched by a record crowd of 20 keen supporters, oohing and arhing every move. However, the final was emphatically won by Rex and he will hold the trophy aloft. It has been a great tournament, led by the children, and a great way to end the winter term.

School Council hear about playground plans
Sun 26 Mar 2023Last week, the school council had a presentation from Touchwood Play, https://touchwoodplay.co.uk/, about their plans for enhancing our playground space. The children heard about potential designs to improve the area known as the 'Woodland'. They listened to a 20 minute presentation from Joe before asking questions and giving their opinions. The school council members then fed back what they had heard to their classmates to gather their thoughts and opinions. A final decision has yet to be made on how the playground will look but the children are all agreed that they would like it to retain its rustic and natural feel. Watch this space!

Poets visit - Alex Wharton and Jo Bennett
Thu 02 Mar 2023This year's World Book Day focus is on Poetry. To bring Poetry to life for our children, we have had two visiting poets. Jo Bennett, parent and poet visited on Monday and inspired the children to write poetry in the classroom. On Wednesday, Alex Wharton, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7rHgXIvkYA, visited giving workshops to years 2 and 3 whilst entertaining the whole school in assemblies. He spoke about the creative spirit, how to perform and where to find inspiration for ideas. We are fortunate to have had both poets bring poetry to the forefront of our children's thinking.
