Year 3 Term 1 Newsletter
Welcome to Year Three! We hope you have all had an enjoyable summer break and are settling back into the school routine nicely. We have started off the term with lots of team-building exercises, core-learning skills activities and mark-making sessions in Art.
This term PE will be on Monday and Thursday afternoons for Baobab class, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for Olive Class. Please can you ensure your child brings in a clearly labelled outdoor PE kit for these sessions, including sensible footwear.
International Languages Day
On Thursday 26th September we will celebrate European Day of Languages by extending it to encompass languages from across the world. Local secondary school children will be leading taster sessions for the children and we will be running a range of language focused activities. Please let us know if you, or another family member, would like to come in and share your knowledge of another language or country. The children would love to hear your stories, learn new words or have a sing-a-long in a new language!
Our enquiry question for this term and next is 'what was the difference between prehistoric life in Britain and in Ancient Egypt?'. With a focus on science, history and geography, the children will explore this question to reflect on the different lives and cultures of the societies and how they compare to our lives in Bristol today.
How you can help at home:
We continue to celebrate the importance of reading inside and outside of school, and expect children to be reading daily at home. We would be grateful if you could regularly read to or with your child. We will shortly be giving out reading journals to assist you with recording this.
If you are available to hear the children read as a parent volunteer, your time would be really appreciated!
Starting next week, home learning and spelling challenges will be given out on a Thursday and expected back on the following Tuesday. Both will also be available on the school website.
Please continue to encourage your child to practice their 2, 3, 5, and 10 times tables. We would be grateful if you could continue to test your child on them regularly.
If you would like to meet with us for an informal chat, we will be available to speak to in the playground most mornings or after school. Alternatively, please leave a message at the school office so we can arrange a good time to meet.
