Design & Technology
Design and Technology Intent statement
At Sefton Park we aim to promote the importance of children receiving a rounded curriculum with a range of inspiring experiences that spark their curiosity and imagination. Design and Technology is a creative, meticulous and practical subject. It is a subject that encourages children to learn to think and be innovative to solve problems as individuals and as a member of a team/society. We aim to enable children to be curious, creative and confident innovators and risk-takers.
Through the Design and Technology curriculum, we aim to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an iterative process of designing and making, through a variety of creative and practical activities. We encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination to confidently design and make products that solve real and relevant problems in a diverse range of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers. We aim to, wherever possible, connect the dots and make links with other subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering, history, computing and art.
Through the Design and Technology curriculum, children should be inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real life purpose.
