Pupil Parliament
Mon 26 Sep 2022Pupil Parliament takes place on Wednesday afternoon for all children from Years 1 to 6. Pupil parliament is an opportunity for pupils to have their voice heard about topics or queries arising in school. It is something that is very much at the heart of our school and has been running for 4 years. The year 6 pupils are in groups of 2 or 3 and they lead the sessions. They discuss the topic with the year 6 class teachers, agree on how to present the topic and plan and lead the delivery of the sessions. Sessions last for 20 minutes and the year 6 pupils feedback to their class teachers about the thoughts of their group.
To date, the topics have been: 'Should the school have a house system?' and 'Introduction to Rosh Hashana.' Future sessions will include a discussion around naming the school library and a free choice topic that the year 6's would like to share.

Composition Performances
Mon 26 Sep 2022On Friday afternoon, the schools gathered together to showcase each classes compositions that they had been working on over the past 3 weeks. A wide range of film, poetry, spoken word, song and body percussion were on display as each class took a theme from our inspiration - Be A Tree by Maria Gianferrari. We love to showcase our performances and the children did a great job of conveying some of the many messages form the book.

Visit from local MP
Fri 23 Sep 2022On Wednesday Thangam Debbonaire visited Sefton Park. She talked to the children in years 3, 5 and 6 about her role as MP and Shadow Leader of the House, her thoughts on her job and the role of democracy. The children had 10 minutes to ask questions and were given insightful answers on what the food was like in parliament, any regrets she had on previous political decisions, not meeting the Queen and hopes she had for the future. We really appreciated her visit and it was great for the children to meet a Member of Parliament on the day when they themselves take part in our own Pupil Parliament.

Year 6 Learn Life Skills
Wed 21 Sep 2022On Tuesday afternoon, Year 6 visited the Create Centre to learn about 'Life Skills'. The Life Skills learnt are all about scenarios that may involve calling the emergency services or how to react in certain emergencies. JS in year 6 said, 'I really enjoyed it. I was a well thought out place and I learnt a lot. Especially about how to stay calm and what to avoid when you might panic. I really enjoyed the dark alleyway and fire scenes.'
Life skills is an annual trip for our Year 6's and we were delighted to be able to return after missing the last 3 years. If you would like more information about the Life Skills Centre - check out their website at: https://lifeskills-bristol.org.uk/

Our Animals Return!!
Wed 14 Sep 2022Our wonderful goats are back with us! Our three rather larger kids are enjoying the paddock area and the nursery children are enjoying interacting with them. We also have a new White Sussex hen to partner Clarrissa, our regular and long surviving Sefton chicken. Our animals are such an important part of our school. All the children love to learn form both the goats and chickens and along with Martin and Lemmy, our resident Guinea Pigs, we have a burgeoning mini farm!

Year 6 Art Display
Thu 08 Sep 2022In July, our current Year 6 produced art based on the work of Stephen Wiltshire (https://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk/). The children took inspiration from Stephen's story and came up with their own work using some of the techniques inspired by Stephen. The work is proudly on display in the Infant Hall and is truly stunning. Please take a look at the display when you enter the school.

New Safari Playground
Thu 08 Sep 2022We did it! Our new playground is up, running and operational! After a £35,000 make over, the children are truly delighted with the results. 'It's so much better' said one year 3 child, 'there are so many more things you can do now' replied another. It is currently playground destination of choice for our school and we are re-arranging timetables so that all year groups will benefit from the new equipment. As ever, a huge than you to our PTA who contributed around £12,000 and also to our local benefactor who contributed, Grape and Grind and Greenhouse Learning - a really supportive tutoring service based on Gloucester Road: https://greenhouselearning.co.uk.
We really are pleased with the finished playground and we hope that children get to enjoy the space for many years to come.
