Our intention is that when children leave Sefton Park, they will do so with a knowledge and understanding of their emotional and social world that will enable them to play an active, positive role in today's diverse society. We recognise how key emotional and social fluency is, affecting every area of a child's life, including supporting their learning in other subjects.
We want all our children to have the confidence to show resilience in the face of challenges, share their feelings openly, and stand up for themselves. We want them to express themselves creatively, problem-solve independently, and be curious about the diversity of their classmates' emotions and experiences.
PSHE helps children develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives now and in the future. Our curriculum covers three core themes:
These themes are revisited throughout primary school, building on previous learning as children grow and develop.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is part of our PSHE curriculum and helps children learn about healthy relationships, their bodies, growing up, and staying safe.
RSE focuses on relationships, friendships, managing emotions, treating others with kindness and respect, growing up, puberty (Years 4–6), and staying safe both offline and online. The content is always age-appropriate and taught sensitively.
In Years 5 and 6, children learn about human reproduction as part of understanding the human life cycle.
We consulted with parents when developing our RSE curriculum. You can review the materials from our consultation and access supporting resources:
If you have any questions about PSHE or RSE, or would like to discuss the curriculum, please contact the school office or speak with your child's class teacher. We're always happy to talk through what we teach and address any concerns you may have.
