  • Moving to Secondary School

We've put together some practical advice to help you and your child with the transition to secondary school. We're also here in person if you need support or want to talk things through.

    Application Process

Who needs to apply: Children currently in Year 6.

How to apply: Applications are managed by Bristol City Council rather than individual schools. The process typically opens in the autumn term with a deadline usually on 31 October.

Critical deadline information: The online system closes at 11:59pm on the deadline date, and late applications won't be considered in the first round of offers. Apply early to ensure your child has the best chance of getting a place at one of your preferred schools.

    What to Expect

Secondary schools usually offer transition days during the summer term, where your child will visit their new school before they start in September. Most schools also provide information sessions for parents and opportunities to meet new teachers and classmates. This helps familiarise everyone with the new environment and routines.
