    What is Sports Premium?

Sports Premium funding helps us provide exceptional PE and sports opportunities for all our children. This government grant allows us to invest in expert coaching, new equipment, competitive opportunities, and experiences that help every child discover the joy of being active.

This funding must be used specifically for improving the school's provision of PE and sport, but each school can choose how to do this based on their pupils' needs and circumstances.

How We Use Sports Premium Funding

At Sefton Park, we use our Sports Premium allocation to enhance PE provision across the five key indicators set by the Department for Education:

Engaging All Pupils in Regular Physical Activity:

    • Diverse after-school clubs targeting less active children, SEND children and Pupil Premium children
    • Free club spaces for Pupil Premium children to ensure equal access
    • Partnership with Bristol Inner-City PE Partnership (BIPP) for positive sporting experiences
    • Active Sports Council, providing pupil voice and leadership opportunities

Raising the Profile of PE and Sport:

    • Active play times and lunch times with designated areas and varied equipment
    • Focus on increasing participation, particularly among girls
    • Whole school sporting events and celebrations
    • Children taking responsibility for sports equipment and setup

    Building Staff Confidence and Skills:

    • Ongoing professional development for all teaching staff
    • One-to-one coaching support during PE lessons
    • Curriculum development and resource enhancement
    • Building sustainable expertise within the school

    Providing Broader Sporting Experiences:

    • Whole school events, including sports days and tournament weeks
    • Guest coaches and speakers from various sports
    • Introduction of new and unconventional sports
    • School trips to broaden positive sporting experiences
    • Partnership working with external clubs and organisations

    Increasing Competitive Sport Participation:

    • Partnerships with local schools for competitive fixtures
    • Transport and entry fees for external tournaments and competitions
    • Focus on developing resilience and good sportsmanship
    • Both competitive and non-competitive opportunities through BIPP

    Impact & Accountability

Swimming Proficiency: As part of our PE provision, all pupils participate in a comprehensive swimming programme. By the end of Year 6, we track how many pupils can:

    • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres
    • Use a range of strokes effectively
    • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
