  • Become a Governor

    Join Our Governing Body

We're looking for people who want to share their skills and passion to make a real difference to education in our community.

Our governing body is friendly and welcoming. The Chair, Headteacher, Clerk to the Governors, and other governors support every new member who joins.

    Why Become a School Governor?

Make a real impact: Play a crucial role in setting strategic direction and ensuring all pupils receive the best possible education.

Develop valuable skills: Gain experience in strategic thinking, financial management, communication, and leadership. You'll work with data analysis, policy development, and stakeholder management – all transferable skills.

Use your expertise: Whatever your lived experience or professional background, schools benefit enormously from governors who bring different perspectives and fresh insights to school leadership.

Understand the education system: Gain deep insights into how schools operate and the challenges they face – valuable for your own family's educational journey or the children you know.

Network and grow: Work alongside committed volunteers and education professionals, building relationships while developing confidence in governance roles.

Flexible commitment: While it requires dedication, we offer flexible arrangements that fit your schedule and expertise. The role typically involves 4–6 hours per month during term time only.

Give back: School governance is a meaningful way to contribute to your local area and support the next generation.

    What's Involved?

    As a school governor, you'll:

    • Attend Full Governing Body meetings (2 evening meetings per term)
    • Join one or more committees that meet termly
    • Visit the school periodically to observe lessons and understand our work firsthand
    • Review policies and school performance data
    • Support recruitment of senior staff when needed
    • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making
    • Act impartially in the best interests of the school

All governors receive training and support to help them contribute effectively, regardless of their starting knowledge about education.

You can see our upcoming meeting dates on the Governance Information page for an overview of our schedule.

    Current Opportunities

We welcome applications from people with all backgrounds and experiences. We want our Governing Body to reflect our school community, and we especially welcome applications from individuals in underrepresented groups, including those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, women, transgender people, older candidates, people with disabilities, and individuals of all sexual orientations and faiths.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people who can bring skills in:

    • Business and finance
    • Human resources
    • Legal expertise
    • Community engagement
    • Marketing and communications

While these skills are valuable, your enthusiasm for supporting children's education matters more than specific professional expertise.
