Sports Premium

PE and Sports Premium Funding

The Sports Premium is a government grant aimed at improving provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The funding is ringfenced and so must be spent on improving the school’s provision of PE and sport, but each school can choose how they can do this.  The government has committed to continuing to fund the Sports Premium until 2020.

Swimming proficiency at Year 6

The DfE has set out a new requirement for 2017/18, requiring schools to publish details of how many pupils within their year 6 cohort can meet minimum swimming standards.

The results for Sefton Park's Year 6 children are as follows:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres: 54/58 children = 93%
  • Use a range of strokes effectively: 93%
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations: 93%
