Forest School - Into the Wild
This term our nature knowledge work has been around native mammals. The class challenge has been to see how many native mammals they could name. Beech class have come out on top so far by naming 19, including underground, flying and seafaring mammals. The children engaged in interesting discussions around carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and what defines a mammal.
The theme for the term has been "Earth, fire and Water." The children have been practicing fire lighting theory using a fire steel and cotton wool and then using clay to model a native mammal of their choice. Finally, we had a team building challenge to get the water from one bucket to the other placed 3 meters away. The children were given a number of tubes, scoops, cups and funnels. It has been really interesting to see their creative problem solving and communication skills put to use.
