Our junior school children have enjoyed representing Sefton Park at a series of school sporting events recently.
Sefton Park competed for the first time in the Central Bristol School Games (Sportshall Athletics) Competition hosted by City Academy. Each student of the group of twenty competed in at least two events of the six track and six field events on offer, with many children competing in more. After a fantastic group effort, with many debut race events as well as excellent performances throughout, we came second out of seven schools and only four points behind the winning team.
A mixed gender team of nine Year 6 children competed at an inter-schools Basketball Tournament on 8 December. Many of our Year 6 children have enjoyed playing basketball at lunchtimes, and a number of them were selected to take part in focused lunchtime practice sessions. The female members of the group looked to transfer skills from Netball played previously this year, and teamed up well with the talented male players. The Sefton Park team played brilliantly and were undefeated on the day, despite not progressing to the latter stages of the tournament.
Sefton Park was very well represented at the Bristol Primary Schools swimming gala, hosted by Easton Leisure Centre, on Thursday 24 November. A mixed group of children from Years 4, 5 and 6 competed in at least two races each, cheered on by enthusiastic parents, siblings and team members. We may not have won many races at the event but you couldn't dampen our enthusiasm!
Congratulations to all of the children who took part. We look forward to more competitions and inter-school fixtures next term!
