At Sefton Park, our children learn in lots of different ways. Some children have been participating in a pioneering peer tutoring scheme, in which older children work with younger pupils to develop their learning. The older children have been trained to encourage and support their peers to help them achieve academic targets and goals. Tutoring sessions last about 30 minutes and take place fortnightly.
On Monday 21 September, ITV West came into the school to film the scheme in action. The short film was broadcast on Tuesday 22 September - click here for more information.
Judith Tolhurst and Neil Harris, both ex-Headteachers from the South West, developed this project based on education research into effective learning.
Sefton Park is an innovative school and receptive to new ways of learning. In this case the children are teachers and coaches, who support and listen as well as teach and tell.
